Silver City Museum, Silver City, New Mexico, Tuesday, July 23, 2019

The building that houses the Silver City Museum has gone through numerous iterations.  It started as the home of a wealthy mine owner, then town hall, later a fire station, a day care center, library and now museum.  On the ground floor, you enter the parlor which is a recreation of what they think the original parlor looked like.

At the back of the museum, there was a large room dedicated to cattle ranching - today, Grant County has 27,000 people and 14,000+ cattle, so this is a big part of the history and local economy.

They had many exhibits on mining, but one of the most interesting was the mine office recreation including this really wide typewriter.

The house had two floors plus a cupola.  There were signs warning of steep and narrow stairs to the cupola, but the climb was worth it for the view in all directions of the old town center.

After the museum, we walked to Adobe Springs Cafe for a pleasant late lunch.
