Besh Ba Gowah, Globe AZ, Tuesday May 9, 2017

While I have known about most of the National Parks and National Monuments in AZ, as well as many of the Arizona State parks, I only found out about Besh Ba Gowah because of a link to it from the Tonto National Monument website.  Tuesday morning, we drove a little less than two hours to Globe AZ.  Besh Ba Gowah is run by the City of Globe and is part of a park that includes a museum, the archeology site, botanical garden, sports facilities, community center and more.  We only visited the museum, the archeology site, the two botanical gardens.

In the museum, we watched a ten minute video about the history of the area, including the Salado natives who built the 200 room pueblo and lived here in the 1300s and 1400s.  They had many artifacts from the archeological dig.  The dig site had many things that had been rebuilt but also a few things that were original.  The site was also covered with beautiful cacti, cholla, agave and other desert flora.

We spent about three hours and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves - we were glad to have found this gem.
