Hiking OSHA Trail #10, Wednesday, June 5, 2019

Our rental is just 200 yards from the parking lot for the Osha Trail Head.   The trail is basically a letter Q, where the first half mile is the tail of the Q and the loop is a couple of miles around the circular part of the Q.

We walked down the hill by our rental, across the parking lot and out on to the tail of the letter Q.  The trail starts with nice views of US 82, the road that climbs from 4,500 feet elevation in Alamagordo in about ten miles to 8,600 feet elevation in Cloudcroft.

On our way into Cloudcroft, we saw this vista for viewing the Mexican Canyon Trestle.

There were strategically placed benches to sit and look back down the valley towards Alamagordo and White Sands National Monument in the distance - the sand is white as the name implies.

A bit further on, we can look back to and down on the Mexican Canyon Trestle.

Once on the circular part of the trail, we turned right and eventually came up to OSHA Trail Road where we saw several deer grazing in the distance.  We later saw numerous deer footprints in the mud, as well as other groups of grazing deer.

We both stopped regularly to take pictures of the local flora.

The Forest Service has done a great job with marking the trails.

We liked this bench cut out of a tree that fell on the trail.

The Forest Service had some nice informational signs next to some of the common plants.

While most of the spring wildflowers have passed, we still came across some colorful plants along the trail.

This was a pleasant three mile plus hike on a beautiful sunny morning.
