Exploring Las Peñitas and visiting Leon, Sunday, December 10, 2017

The last batch of beers we bought Saturday night needed to have the empty bottles returned to the place of purchase, so Sunday morning, I took a walk south as was done Saturday night.  It is nice to compare what you see at night with what you see in the dark.

We are close to a school.  There are nice buildings near the signs, but those are residences - I could not determine which one was the school.

I returned the bottles to the Caracolito Hostel - it had a very interesting vibe Saturday night, not as much on Sunday morning.

On my return to our hostal, I came across these barrels made from empty plastic bottles - one for recycling and one for trash.  I later saw several businesses that had found this use (reuse) for empty plastic drink bottles.

One of my friends on Facebook told me that they had seen an edition of HGTV's House Hunter International focused on homes in Las Peñitas.   One of the estates next to us is available to rent.

For those who desired, our schedule allowed Fuller volunteers to go to mass at the local church just a couple hundred feet down the street.

After mass, our group rode by bus to Leon.  Our first stop was the Ruben Dario Museum.  It has a beautiful courtyard.

We had a Spanish tour guide and Santos, our Fuller Center translator, did an excellent job translating both what the tour guide said as well as our questions for the guide.

We then headed through town where we saw an interesting church showing a priest and a wolf.

Leon had many of the same type of Christmas decorations as Managua, just not as big or ostentatious.

We had our lunch at Pizza Roma - great lunch stop and fascinating murals on the walls.

After lunch, we walked through more of Leon and went to a large, modern grocery store.  Many people bought Nicaraguan coffee as gifts to bring home.  Many of us also had a scoop or two of ice cream in a cup or a cone.

We then returned to Hostal La Palmera and relaxed until dinner.  The Fuller Center staff who are cooking our lunches and dinners are doing an amazing job - our only complaint is that they give us too much good food which we cannot eat.
