The Museums of Fort Huachuca

I am not sure what happened.  I wrote this post back on January 18 when my sister Helen was here, but I apparently saved it as a draft rather than publishing it.

After a leisurely breakfast, we headed out to see the Museums of Fort Huachuca.  We went first to the main museum which is housed in building designated as a historical landmark.

Helen and I both enjoy history and this was a great place to learn about our American history.  Units stationed here were involved in events such as the Mexican American war of 1846-1848, chasing Geronimo, chasing Pancho Villa, the Civil War, the Spanish American war of 1898, the Philippines Insurrection, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.  It is interesting to see how people lived here during the 1800s and early 1900s.

There was much about the history of the Buffalo Soldiers, the black soldiers who served a country which did not always treat them well.  There was also much about the families who lived here.  One famous child was Fiorello LaGuardia, who became mayor of New York City.

In the annex, there were additional displays through the years showing more of how people lived here at what was then a remote outpost.

After touring both buildings, we  to the  Buffalo Soldier Legacy Walk.

After lunch at Post Exchange Mall, we went to the Military Intelligence Museum and learned about some of the different intelligence operations going back to the 1800s.

While staying in the hotel in Sierra Vista, we went to the Texas Roadhouse Restaurant for dinner and enjoyed some small margaritas.
