Travel to Poland

I had the opportunity to visit Krakow and Gliwice, Poland, June 21 to July 8, with Habitat for Humanity.  Instead of the usual project working with families who were investing "sweat equity" with us, this time we worked on rehab of a 106 year old building that was being developed as a shelter for abused and homeless women.  It as a most rewarding experience, plus we got to visit Krakow (including the factory used by Oskar Schindler [and filmed in the movie "Schindler's List"] which is now a museum, the concentration and death camps at Auschwitz and Birkenau, and the Gliwice Radio Tower (the 110 meter tall wooden structure that was where WWII began).  Below are links to the photos posted in Facebook.  Make sure that you click on the first photo at each link so that you will get the full screen view and then cursor down on each photo so that you can see the description and comments.

Welcome to Travels with Sherpa Tom

This is my first attempt at creating a blog.  In the past, I have shared my travels by sending emails describing my experiences.  I have typically uploaded photos to Facebook and then emailed the links to family and friends.  But I would sometimes forget to include people in the list of addressees on the email.  So as suggested by my family and friends, I am creating this blog.

I love to travel.  So far in 2011, I have been on many trips: scuba diving in February in Little Cayman with my wife; in March, I traveled to INTED 2011 in Valencia, Spain, and spent a week in Rascafria, Spain with Vaughan Town, plus two weekends in Madrid; in April, Patty and I went to build houses in Pokhara, Nepal with Habitat for Humanity; at the end of April, my sister Helen, Patty and I spent a couple of days in Grand Canyon National Park; and in May, Patty and I visited Fort Huachuca, Coronado National Memorial, San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area and Bisbee, all in southern Arizona.

So come along and learn more about my travels.
