Last week in Munds Park and first week in Prescott

The weather was hot in Munds Park, with above average temps for many days - even the two large fans I brought from Phoenix did not help much.  Because of this, on several afternoons we left Munds Park in our air conditioned car - for example, on the 23rd, we took Shadow to Petco Groomers in Flagstaff and we went to Sunset Crater National Monument just north of Flagstaff.

Our friends Anne and Shawn returned from their trip to Italy on Monday the 22nd and had planned on them joining us in Munds Park - however, on the 23rd, Anne was hospitalized and they never made it.  When I went for my medical appointments Wednesday the 24th, I visited Anne in the hospital and on Friday the 26th, Patty and I went to Phoenix for the day to visit her again.  Anne finally went home on Sunday the 28th.  I went to Phoenix on the 30th for medical appointments and visited with Anne and Shawn at their home.

And on Wednesday July 1, we left Munds Park around 10:30.  We drove north on I-17 to Flagstaff, then south on AZ 89 A through Oak Creek - a very scenic ride.  We stopped at Indian Gardens (a bit north of Sedona) for a couple of lattes.  Then we went through Sedona where the streets are all torn up with construction.  We bought lunch at Safeway and continued on - we stopped just before we got to the top of Mingus Mountain and ate at the side of the road.  We arrived in Prescott around 3:00 and went to the YMCA - we joined for the summer and got photo IDs.  And then we checked in at our rental in Prescott.  It is in the Hidden Valley Ranch HOA and we have great views looking out at Thumb Butte to the west and Bradshaw Mountains to the north.  All of the homes here are on the sides of these mountains, well above the mile high elevation of downtown Prescott.  Here are a couple of photos from the deck, which Mr. Shadow certainly enjoys.

As you enter the home, there is a large cactus.

The house is 3,250 square feet, has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, two fulls kitchens, one partial kitchen, two large decks and more.

There is plenty of space for guests, so Anne and Shawn came up on Thursday the 2nd until Sunday the 5th, and Jane came up on the 3rd and left on Monday the 6th.  The home is air conditioned, so in the afternoons when it has gotten hot and muggy we have been comfortable.  There has also been a lot of humidity and thunderstorms.  Everyone has relaxed, outside when the weather allows, inside when it is raining.

We have had some exceptional sunsets.

In Munds Park, we only saw deer one time - when we were on our longest hike and a couple of miles away from the closest homes.  Here in Prescott, we see deer from our back deck, or as in these photos, while out walking the dog - these photos were on a vacant lot about six house down the street from our rental.

Today, we are having a peaceful day while our guests are gone.  With improved weather, we plan to do some hiking in the area, as well as regular exercising at the YMCA.  We are looking forward to our two months here in Prescott.
