Sept. 22 is Bulgarian Independence Day, a national holiday. Last night, as we were leaving the restaurant, we were treated to a display of fireworks.
Today, we started with a briefing from the national head of Habitat for Humanity Bulgaria. We learned about the many projects they are involved with: microfinancing of energy efficient home improvements for people who cannot get conventional financing, advocacy for improving living conditions for low income people and building homes.
We then went to the build site where four homes will eventually stand. One home is complete and the family is already living there. A second home is nearly finished, with just internal work to be done. A third home has had the concrete work done - our task was to remove all of the concrete forms (including removing nails) and stack all the pieces for reuse on the fourth home.

Rain stopped our work and we all stayed inside |
A couple of rain storms today, but we left as scheduled and are now heading out into another storm for dinner.
