This was my third time spending a week on converting this hundred year old factory to six apartments. As before, we stay at the Domus just outside of Braga and commute each day to Tadim where the work site is located.
The first three days, another Tom and I worked on removing the old floor. The new floor of concrete beams and red clay bricks is about three feet higher than the old wood floor, so much of the time we were on our knees removing floor boards. Then from below, we removed the supporting beams.
Other volunteers were busy elsewhere.
This is the pile of floorboards and beams that we removed.
This is what the space looks like when we were done.
On Saturday, we worked with all of the families that will be moving into these apartments and had a certificate ceremony for all of us volunteers. Then we had our last meal together in Porto before heading home.
