Tonto National Monument, Tuesday afternoon, May 9, 2017

After lunch, we drove 30 minutes north from Globe to Tonto National Monument.  We hiked up the half mile trail and 350 feet elevation gain to the lower cliff dwelling.  The visitor center is at 2800 feet elevation and look out at Roosevelt Lake (not to be confused with Lake Roosevelt in Washington).

About half way up the trail, the cliff dwelling becomes visible.

Once you reach the cliff dwelling at 3150 feet elevation, the view back to Roosevelt Lake is amazing.

The park ranger at the dwelling said that about 80% of what we see is original, including many of the wood beams.  Only the new path, retaining wall and a couple of metal supports added to keep the building upright have been added.

And then we had a relaxing two hour drive back to Phoenix.  Another good day in AZ.
