We have been making weekly trips to shop at the Commissary at the nearby Holloman AFB. It is about 40 minutes from our rental in Cloudcroft. Last week, Patty did not go with me, so I took a few minutes to visit the static display. My first 18 months at Ramstein AB, Germany, was working primarily on F-102A fighter interceptors. The final 18 months was working primarily on RF-4C reconnaissance jets and some on F-4C and F-4D fighter/bombers, but we also did all of the TDY planes transiting through the base - F-100, F-104, F-105, F-106, RB-66, C-47, C-54, C-117, C-124, C-130, etc., etc. Walking around the static display was a stroll down memory lane (fortunately, they had signs for each of the planes, all of which helped with the memory). The twin tail F-15 and the F-117 stealth fighter were all after my time as an electronics technician in 1967 to 1970 (as was the drone which I did not take a photo of), but all the others were ones that I have been around. It is hard to believe that it was 50 years ago that I was at Ramstein AB working on airborne electronics equipment: radios (HF, VHF and UHF), intercoms, TACAN (Tactical Air Navigation), ILS (Instrument Landing System), TDDL (Time Division Data Link - the first airborne computer), SLR (Side Looking Radar), TFR (Terrain Following Radar for navigation), INS (Inertial Navigation System), etc., etc. Oh, the memories!!
