Out and about in Cloudcroft, NM, June 6 - 13, 2019

In the center of Cloudcroft, Zenith Park includes a nine hole disc course,  picnic areas, skating rink in the winter, tennis courts, basketball court, snack bar, building for non-profit organizations to meet and more.  It even includes this nice walking trail in the woods along one side of the park.

Even though the walking trail and park are in the center of town, across the highway from the three schools (elementary, middle and high) on one side with a street full of homes on the other side, there are plenty of wild animals.  This scat on the Zenith trail looks like it could be mule deer or antelope.

One day, I asked Patty to go for a walk with me.  We ended up walking to the Trestle Recreation Area, and from there, about 2/3 of the way on the Mexican Canyon Trestle Trail.  We stopped at several vistas, including Devil's Elbow vista which overlooks a turn in the old railroad route that was shaped like an elbow.  In several places, the trestles on which the railroad tracks ran are still there, although many have partially collapsed.

In the parking lot behind the Methodist church, I came across this old Chevy Corvair from Arizona.  The tires on the passenger side were flat.

We often sit on the side porch to read, relax and nap.  One morning, there were several deer less than 30 feet from the porch.  I think this one was the mother, lying down for rest while her fawns were eating nearby.
