Final Days on the Build, Feb. 13 - 14, 2020

Here is the project I worked on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  The project engineer wanted to run the rain water pipe from the back of the house under the side area of the house that is covered with concrete.  We had to cut through the concrete, dig down - and then we encountered a large rock.  So we had to go a different route, could not go as deep, put dirt back in, and then covered with new concrete.

There is also a weeping yellow pipe from under the house that we had to dig out and put in a home made sump for water to drain - a blue plastic tank that was connected with a new pipe.

We then prepped for additional concrete over the next section and Mickey was a real pro putting on the finishing touches.

Friday morning, I took a quick tour to see progress in other rooms: the kitchen:

The bathroom:

Finishing touches on the front porch:

Then it was saying goodbye to the homeowner Rosa, construction worker Zinga, and construction supervisor Fabio.  Friday morning for our break, Rosa had bought crossaints, cheese, meats and pastries to say thank you to us.

Friday evening, we had an amazing dinner prepared by Sophia, the woman who works for HFH at Domus.  Appetizers included octopus, meats, cheeses, a variety of fish and meat croquettes, garlic bread and more.  The main course was a casserole of potatoes, cod, cheese and more.  The dessert was home made chocolate cake with ice cream and/or sorbet.

After dinner we all got HFH certificates recognizing our volunteer time and a gift from HFH Portugal.

Another great week volunteering with Habitat!!!
