Father Son Trip Part 5, Inverness, Scotland, December 1 - 3, 2025

We took the train from Mallaig back to Glasgow (five and a half hours) and then a second train to Inverness (two plus hours).  The inn where we stayed was small but very nice, we had to ring the bell to get inside and to our room.

We had a long walk down to the parts of Inverness we wanted to explore.

We came across some cute signs, as well as some informative signs.

There was a former prison near our inn.

We did not have any problems finding food and drinks.

 The Ness River flows from Loch Ness through Inverness, and we walked by the river in several places.

We tried to shop, drink and eat at small locally owned businesses.

Did I mention that Inverness is hilly, as the streets rise up from the river?

And then on Wednesday December 3, we took the train to Edinburgh.

 

 

 

Father Son Trip Part 4, Mallaig, Scotland, November 30 - December 1, 2025

We took the afternoon train to Mallaig, a five hour ride - very scenic ride as we went north.  We arrived after dark - this far north, the sun sets about 3:30 in the afternoon.  We checked into our inn, then went for a walk and found a cafe for dinner.

It was a small train station in a small town, lots of fog and mist.

There is a very nice Co-op store near the train station.

Mallaig is an active port.

There is still an old landline payphone in an old style phone booth, but it will be removed soon.

There appears to be a section of town across the bay that has a number of second homes.

The port includes both the working port area above as well as a section for recreational boaters.

We had a nice dinner at a local restaurant, a great stay in local hotel that included breakfast and then we were off again for a day of train rides to get to Inverness.
