First Hike of 2015

When I went out for Shadow's morning walk, there was a beautifully colored sky from the sunrise.

Anne, Patty and I went for the first hike of the year on an unseasonably cold New Years Day - snow had arrived in Scottsdale and everything was covered with a beautiful white coat.  We had frost in Phoenix where the temps were in the low thirties - but Phoenix is about 1200 feet above sea level.  When we went to the Browns Ranch Trail Head at the Scottsdale McDowell Sonoran Preserve, it is 2700 feet above sea level and the temps were in the upper 20s.

As we continued on our hike, the sky showed signs of clearing and warming up.  The warmth caused the snow and frost to melt, which caused the trails to become muddy.  We came across footprints from someone running in the footgloves that barefoot runners like.

The mountains to the north and east were beautiful.

We had a great time enjoying the cold weather but look forward to warm weather returning in a couple of days.
