Prescott Valley, Phoenix, Portland, Phoenix, Prescott, June 27 - July 5, 2018

We had rented the apartment in Prescott Valley through June 30 - but that was many months before we decided to go to Portland for Ben and Martha's celebration of Ben's and Caroline's completion of their Fellowships at OHSU.  So on Wednesday the 27th, Patty and I packed up to leave - before leaving I took photos to document the condition of the apartment at the end of our stay.

We left for Phoenix a little after nine and arrived around eleven.  We brought in the things we would need for the trip to Portland and put food in the fridge and freezer for our return.  Then we repacked and left around two for the airport, thank you Super Shuttle.  We flew to San Francisco and then on to Portland, where Ben picked us up at the airport around nine p.m.

Thursday the 28th, Ben and I went for an early morning walk before he went to work.  During the day we visited with Martha and ran errands.  That evening the four of us had a private celebration with Ben and Martha at the Patton Maryland restaurant.

Friday the 29th we were busy getting things ready to host about forty guests.  Even Mr. Stowe was tired from all the preparation and decoration of Ben and Martha's back yard.

Five ice chests of drinks were readied.

We all had a great time and Ben was glad to be done with his fellowship, ready to move on to the next phase of his life.  We know he will be a great palliative care physician.

On Saturday, we flew back to San Francisco and on to Phoenix, getting back to our condo after midnight.  Sunday the 1st, we had brunch at the Windsor, then packed up and drove to our next rental in Prescott.  The distance between our rental in Prescott Valley and the one in Prescott is about ten miles - but it is not highway, so rather than 90 minutes to Phoenix, it is closer to two hours to get back to Phoenix.  Rather than an apartment in a triplex like Prescott Valley, this is an entire house - although not large, it has two bedrooms, bathroom, living room, eat in kitchen, laundry room and large carport.  And there are lots of large trees that help keep the house cool.  The house has a very good swamp cooler, so the house is easy to keep comfortable in the mid 70s inside.

I am keeping to my schedule of Monday, Wednesday and Friday going to the YMCA for Silver Sneakers exercise class and Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday volunteering for a half day at the Prescott Habitat for Humanity ReStore.  On Tuesday, I noticed there was an overlook just after entering Pioneer Parkway from the west.  Thursday, I stopped and took a few photos from the overlook.

The overlook parking lot is also for the trail head of the Jan Alfano Trail and other parts of Pioneer Park.

I continued on and stopped at another overlook with views of the main campus of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and the Yavapai County Services, including the Sheriff's Department.

While at Habitat ReStore, I found a used sewing machine and called our friend Shawn.  I bought it for her at a very reasonable price and she will be giving it to one of her granddaughters.

And Thursday the 5th was a really hot day for Prescott - it is 96 degrees as I write this post.  Our car showed 110 degrees when I got done at Habitat Restore at 12:30 - and yet the swamp cooler has the living room at a very comfortable 75 degrees.
