The first half of April, April 1 - 16, 2019

A couple of days after her surgery, we left Paulie alone with the protective cone on her head and went out to eat - when we returned, we found that the poor girl had managed to get herself all tangled up in the cords to recharge Patty's iPad and phone.

Without the cone, she was much happier.

On Tuesday the 2nd, on my usual day at the DBG, I observed many cacti in bloom.

That included this Sabi Star that is in a pot in Stardust Plaza near the entrance to the Succulent Gallery.

During my shift at the Agave Station, I saw these two gila woodpeckers feeding on these aloes.

We celebrated Patty's birthday by watching "Woman at War", a film made in Iceland, and then dinner at Bluewater Grill Seafood Restaurant.

The kids bought Patty a beautiful orchid and it arrived safely.

From their vacation in Hawaii, Ben and Martha sent coffee and chocolate.

Bridgette sent flowers, and with all of the above, made for a nice birthday for Patty.

On the 6th, I was a DBG volunteer at the Phoenix Home and Garden home tour.  I was one of four volunteers at one of eight homes on the tour.  The house I was at had a formal French garden and beautiful yard around the home.  One plant I learned about was a waxleaf privet.

Paulie manages to get into the most unusual places, here part way under one of the chairs on the patio in front of the door into the dining room.

The bougainvillea around our pool and condos is in bloom.

Patty placed her new orchid with her white orchid.

On the 9th, I did my usual day at the DBG - many more cacti are in bloom.

Paulie developed a hematoma in her right ear.  While in the vet's office waiting to be seen, she had a great time on the cool tile floor.

On the 12th, we went to Cave Creek Regional Park for a presentation on basic survival issues on hiking on desert trails.  We had high winds on the 15th and 16th, and had a palo verde tree partially get blown down on a neighbor's car.

And so the first 16 days of April have quietly passed.
