Off to Amboise, Sunday to Tuesday, May 12 - 14, 2019

Sunday, after breakfast and a run to the grocery store (for wine, cheese, salami, rolls and apples), we took a taxi to Gare Montparnasse.  The driver started to drop us at one end of the station but then I told him we were taking the TGV, so he brought us to Hall 2 - there are four halls, and Hall 2 has 24 loading platforms, nine of which are for the TGV fast trains that go long distance.

The train made the 230 kms in a little over an hour.  We disembarked at St. Pierre des Corps and found it is a very small station.  We got off train on Voie 1 and the train to Amboise boarded about ten feet away on Voie Z.

Google maps said it was a 24 minute walk from the Amboise train station to our rental, so we set off on foot with our luggage.  About ten minutes away, we crossed the Loire on to an island and then crossed more of the Loire from the island into the city.

We stopped to take a selfie with the Amboise Chateau behind us.

We stopped in town for a bite to eat, then made it to our very nice rental.  For dinner we had wine, cheese, salami and bread.

Patty enjoyed the Mothers Day card from Megan - it opened into a cardinal, and we listened to birds outside while enjoying the wine.

Later, we made a loop around town and discovered a store that reminded us of Laura ...

two that reminded us of Ben ...

and one that was just for fun.

We stopped by the wine cave at the base of the chateau in the center of town - not only was there wine for tasting and for sale, but there were vines growing out front so you could see what the different varieties look line.

We passed by the Da Vinci chateau and saw Mona Lisa in the trees.

On Tuesday, we went to Chateau Galliard and spent several lovely hours exploring the gardens, wooded trails and the chateau itself.

They had photos from the flood of 2016.

Then we stopped at Le Maitre D'Art for a wonderful lunch - chicken, noodles and salad for Patty, soup, salad and quiche for me with a nice chilled bottle of sauvignon blanc, then dessert of chocolate mousse with strawberries.

After lunch, I hoofed it to the Gare Amboise and met Helen, Laura and Tammy.  Rather than taking a taxi, I convinced them to walk and enjoy the views.  We stopped for bathroom break and wine in the city center, then back to the house to get everyone situated.  We then went out for dinner where we sat in the sun, had drinks and a delightful dinner at Le Vinci, and of course, much good cheer and laughter.
