Tuesday, August 6 - leaving the Gobi, returning to Ulaanbaatar

We had our earliest breakfast yet - 6:00 a.m. - and we were on the bumpy road for the 45 minute ride to the Dalanzadgad airport.  Before heading out, I got some more photos of the sun rising over the Gobi.

We got to the airport and said our goodbyes to Bayarmar and Munkh.  In the airport, there were numerous large ads for many tourist attractions and lodging.  We missed the Camel Festival, but there were signs for two of our ger camps.

We caught our Aero Mongolian flight back to Ulaanbaatar.  We had prepaid for a van to bring us to the hotel.  It had rained heavily in Ulaanbaatar, and since there is no real system for dealing with storm water, the roads were even worse than normal.  I stayed at the hotel and worked online, others went out shopping and museum touring.  Erika left for her three week train ride across Russian.  The seven remaining team members met Peter and Susan for dinner, and HFH coordinator Billy joined us as well.  We ate at the Veranda Restaurant and said our goodbyes.

These posts are in reverse chronological order, so if you are reading this first, please go back to the start of my trip on July 15 and follow my journey as it unfolded on a daily basis.  Thanks for reading.  Please leave a comment and let me know what you think.

    1. Now you can see why I wanted to come here. Mongolia is a beautiful country and we can help them by spending our tourist dollars there.
