Sunday morning, we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast at the Hotel Ayre. We then walked to the train station and found the bike rental shop. We rented bikes and helmets for six hours and set off to explore the city. On our way north and west towards Rio Guadalquivir, we passed this old castle on our left. They have excellent bike paths throughout the city, so it was easy for us to ride.
Here is Harry in front of the Andulusia Parliament building.
We continued on to the river, where there is a nice riverwalk for many miles.
It was a beautiful sunny day. I was in shorts and a short sleeve shirt (Harry was a tad cold, so long pants and long sleeve jacket). Many people were out on the river - lots of sculls, kayaks and other craft enjoying the day.
On the other side of the river, there are several things built for the 1992 World's Fair and Expo, plus new construction of high rise buildings.
Harry explained the difference between palm and palmetto trees. Palmetto trees are the state tree of South Carolina and he explained how palmetto logs had helped in defending against attack from the British.
After about 90 minutes, we stopped at a cafe and had a cold drink. A dog owners club came by with what appeared to be a large number of rescued greyhounds.
We continued on to Plaza de America which had much avian and family activity.
Plaza de America and Plaza de Espana are both part of the large Maria Luisa Park. We continued on through the park to Plaza de Espana - we did not go inside but it is a magnificent edifice.
We saw many forms of transportation.
We rode on and finally decided to stop for lunch at a sidewalk cafe on the back side of the Alcazar.
Then it was on to the plaza in front of the Alcazar (we visited inside the Alcazar on Monday).
It was a beautiful sunny day - perfect for a day of bike riding for a couple of old guys.
