Grand Cayman, Friday through Tuesday morning, Feb. 20-24

Our dive vacation began with Super Shuttle to the Phoenix airport, then United to Houston.  Once at the Houston airport, we took the underground train to the Marriott hotel - the train connects all of the terminals and the hotel, and runs every three minutes.  We checked into the hotel and then searched for our room.  The elevators are in the center and then there are covered walkways that lead out to the circle of rooms - we were on the third floor which is the top floor for rooms.  We left our luggage and returned to the center to take the elevator up a tower to the restaurant.  We had some Blue Moon beer with our dinner and relaxed.

Saturday, we gathered our stuff, took the underground train back to the terminal, had breakfast in the United Club and then flew to Grand Cayman.  Since we got in an hour earlier than the rest of the Waterfront Diving Center crew, we had lunch upstairs at the airport.  We then went to the Avis rental office and waited.  The crew arrived as scheduled, we got the rental cars and then headed east our of Georgetown.  When we got to Bodden Town, we stopped at a shopping center with grocery store and liquor store, and bought supplies for the week.  While at the shopping center, we were greeted by numerous roosters.

The Waterfront Diving Center group had four condos and four cars.  The condos were two bedroom units - very nice with two bathrooms, kitchen, dining room and living room, with a nice patio.  We shared an end unit with Gerry, a doctor that Patty knew from FAHC, and we shared a rental car - nothing fancy, but both the condo and car were quite adequate.

We were within 50 feet of the water.  Here is the view from our porch.

And here are some more views of our residence for the week.

Sunday morning, we set out for our first two dives and I took a couple of photos of the dock and the boats.

Sunday evening, all 13 of us had dinner at the small bar and cafe at the condos.  It is run by Tukka Restaurant, another company about a mile away.  Tido was our waiter and did a great job taking care of us.

Monday, we had two more dives.  After a nap, and some relaxation time, Patty and I went to Tukka Restaurant for dinner.  It was excellent - Tido was there and greeted us by name.

We enjoyed a bottle of Russian River chardonnay and shared a bowl of conch chowder.  Patty had the catch of the day - lightly blackened snapper on top of garlic mash potatoes and topped with a skewer of shrimp, while I had mango glazed salmon on penne pasta and peas with alfredo sauce.  For dessert, we shared some peach cobbler.

Tuesday morning, we had two more nice dives and then a quick lunch at the condo before heading out to visit the botanical garden.

Here is a photo of us taken by Wade.
