I have set up my schedule so that I can do the Silver Sneakers exercise classes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11:00 to 11:50. Patty has yoga classes from 10:30 to 11:45. So we ride together and I leave Patty and the car at the Lotus Bloom Yoga Studio.
It is only a couple of blocks to the YMCA for my classes. We have done exercise classes at the Prescott YMCA when we were in Prescott in 2015.
Because of the 30 minutes difference in class times, Tuesday I had time to walk by the Yavapai Regional Medical Center a block away from the YMCA.
Among other things at YRMC, they have a landing pad for medical evacuation helicopters, and there was a helicopter present that morning.
There was also this interesting sculpture of a bucking bull. Prescott has a large rodeo and it is held at an arena on grounds only a couple of blocks away.
Embry Riddle Aeronautical University is one of the biggest universities (other than the military academies) that produces pilots. It has two main campuses, one here in Prescott and the other in Daytona, FL. They also have satellite campuses at many Air Force Bases and Naval Air Stations. When Plattsburgh AFB, NY, closed in 1995, ERAU moved the satellite campus to Burlington, VT, and tried to run classes with Vermont Air National Guard members as students. I taught for them at least one semester in 1996, but there was not enough interest so the program was closed.
On the campus here in Prescott, ERAU has the Jim and Linda Lee Planetarium. On Friday and Saturday evenings, they show movies. Entrance is free, but you have to sign up online and get digital tickets. Friday evening we watched Space Next, a forty minute movie that gives a brief history of humans in flight, including space flight, up to the present time, and then talks about future exploration of the solar system and beyond. The seats are semi reclined because the domed ceiling is the circular movie screen. It was a very interesting show and we look forward to the next two for which we have signed up. Just another interesting thing to see and do in Prescott.
