Fun and friends in Prescott Valley and Prescott, AZ, June 3 and 4, 2018

On Sunday, we had visitors from Phoenix for the day.  My invitation a couple of weeks before referenced escaping the heat of Phoenix, as we had not had to use the air conditioner in Prescott Valley.  As luck would have it, Sunday was the first day we needed to use the air conditioning as it reached 95 degrees - but our friends were happy as it reached 110 degrees in Phoenix.  Anne, Cathy, Meg and Lauren arrived around 10:30, we had great fun catching up with what everyone was doing and looked at some of the photos I had digitized, including those from our wedding in 1975 (Anne was matron of honor and Meg was in attendance with her then husband Tom and infant Tommy Jr.).  And we looked at some photos from a trip Patty and I took in the late 1970s.  Many of the photos made us laugh uproariously, especially Meg.  We then had a nice lunch time together, enjoying the gazpacho I made (all of it was eaten), salad, steaks Patty had grilled, and bread and rolls, with some huge cookies for dessert.

After lunch, Lauren suggested we go to a meadery.  We learned that a meadery is a place that ferments honey and mixes it with fruits and other flavors to make wine.  So we all drove to the Superstition Meadery in Prescott.  We shared a flight of 12 one ounce samples of 12 different meads, and then several of us also had additional glasses to sample.  We left with a total of six bottles of mead based wine, one of which Patty had purchased - the other five bottles went back to Phoenix.

After the meadery visit, our friends headed back to Phoenix and we went back to Prescott Valley to stay cool inside with the air conditioning.  By sunset, we were able to turn off the air conditioning and open the windows.  As with our previous nights, we were able to sleep comfortably cool with the windows open.

On Monday, after dropping Patty at the Lotus Bloom Yoga Center, on my walk to the YMCA, I took a different route, walking by the home we will be renting for July and August.  I came across this nice statue commemorating the 100th anniversary of Boy Scouts and a bit further, a memorial to those who helped preserve some of the natural environment in Prescott.

As always, I never pass up a chance to explore and learn about wherever we are.
