Saturday we made a pleasant excursion to Buffalo Park, run by the city of Flagstaff. It is mostly flat open land known as MacMillan Mesa, formed from an ancient lava flow.
Unknown to us Saturday was the 25th anniversary of the Flagstaff Trail Association which was recognizing the 50th anniversary of the National Trail System Act. The parking lots were nearly full when we arrived and through the gate we could see the booths that different organizations had set up
We hiked the Nate Avery Trail, part of FUTS (Flagstaff Urban Trail System). It is a pleasant two mile loop through the park, wide enough for hikers, joggers and bicyclists. We came across prickly pear cactus, globe mallows and other wildflowers as we trekked along the loop.
A very pleasant morning hike before heading off to other errands for the day.
