A week back in Phoenix, July 1 - 7, 2019

Megan had some time off and was able to go fishing two times during the last week of June.  She caught several large king salmon.  She then had it frozen and shipped to us - on Wednesday morning, July 3, we received a box full of frozen salmon and halibut, and it filled up one side of the freezer compartment!!

We had some grilled salmon on salad for one of our dinners - very yummy and looking forward to enjoying more.

On Tuesday July 2, the Carlyle Condos has a nice social hour for Lisa, the new property manager from City Property management.  About a dozen residents visited for a couple of hours with drinks and munchies.

One of my board duties was measuring the metal railings in the pool and spa for zippered cloth covers - the metal gets too hot in the summer sun.

They did not arrive while we were home but they should end up looking like this.

All week, the high temps reached between 105 and 114 degrees.  Wednesday was unusually warm in the condo and sure enough, the air conditioner died.  I called Howard Air around 6:00 p.m. and much to my surprise, was able to get a repair person out Thursday morning July 4.  As expected, the 22 year old system expired.   Repairs would be either $1,450 or $4,416.  Full replacement will be $7,500 - contract has been signed and installation will be on the day we return to Phoenix in August.

I received my first shipment of six months worth of batteries for my hearing aids - the VA hearing aids are working well and this is one expense I will no longer have. Thank you VA!!

Saturday evening, I volunteered for Flashlight Tours at the Desert Botanical Garden.  My station was the pond with fellow Tuesday Docent Karin.  We had snails, fresh water mollusks, tadpoles of all sizes (from less than a half inch to about four inches), water scorpions, bullfrogs, Woodhouse's toads and more.  People of all ages loved it, as being in the Sonoran Desert, these things are not usually seen.  Even in the darkness, this big bull frog was easily seen for more than an hour.

Did I mention we also had scorpions, visible due to the black lights we had?

We even had some three inch long beetles.

We survived the last five days and nights without air conditioning and prepared to head off on our next adventure in the cooler climes of Gila, NM.
