The day started with Alex wearing a somewhat comical construction worker's costume.
Here is a short video showing our breakfast area at Hostal La Palmera.
This morning, I walked to the work site. After at our house for awhile, I took a break to check on the activity of the second house which is a block away from where team Alpha is working. Here are a couple of photos of that house with the home owner in the chair. In the first photograph you can see where a room is being added to the house to the left of the large tree.
This part of team Alpha shaping rebar for the four new columns in front of the house.
Here is Alex hamming it up with his faux construction worker costume.
On a more serious note, this is Alex removing some of the nails from boards that will be repurposed.
As the house is expanded, new sections of rebar will need to be added to the tops of the existing walls. The first photo shows one of local workers an d the second shows Peggy chipping away the old concrete around the existing rebar so that the new rebar can be welded to it.
Mark is a professional videographer and he is making a video for Fuller Center to use (and when not filming, he is also building).
Here is Shanley at the top of the wall, also working on chipping away the concrete around the old rebar.
Here is a short video showing the bucket brigade pouring concrete for the foundation of the new wall at the other house.
Here is a video of cutting some grooves in the concrete to make it easier to chip away the concrete.
I walked from the work site to the lunch/dinner house and encountered this free range cow on the way.
This video shows Peggy and Kathleen bending rebar to make the squares that holds the center of the columns together.
More rebar work by our team.
And finally this afternoon, we got the cement mixer, made concrete and poured the footings for our four columns.
I walked with Lisa from the work site back to the hotel. She showed me this statue that is on a bluff overlooking the beach; we could not find any information telling us why this nun was here.
Here are the last moments of sunset before dinner.
And here is our crew after dinner, relaxing a bit before playing a game of "revolution" and returning to our hostal.
