On to Death Valley National Park Thursday March 31, 2016

Because our insurance had determined damage to the Volvo was more than the value of the car.  So it was considered a total loss and they would pay us if we transferred the title to them.  On Wednesday, I had received instructions on how to transfer the title and a Fedex label for shipping it to them.  We found a Fedex station in Pahrump with an owner who was also a notary.  We drove about six miles through a progressively less populated area to his business which was also his home.  He was a most eccentric and unique individual.  It took nearly a half hour to get him to notarize our signatures on the title and to record this in his log.  Finally, we got the Fedex package set up for shipment.  As we are going out the door, he points out that besides his business we were just in, he has a trailer next door that he rents for $65 per night and that if we are ever in Pahrump and need a place to stay, let him know.

We then drove on from there into Death Valley National Park.  We drove past the turnoffs to Dante's View and Bad Water drive.  Our first stop was Zabriskie Point.  It was an unworldly sight - some might consider it to be like a lunar landscape.

We stopped at Furnace Creek Inn and found out that Furnace Creek Ranch was another mile down the road.  We arrived and even though it was only 12:30, were able to check into our room.  We then went to the saloon and enjoyed lunch with a couple of beers - a big mistake, as then we needed to take a nap.

After our nap, we explored the grounds of the resort.  There is a general store, four restaurants, a gas station, four RV/camping areas, a golf course, gas station, horse stables and riding trails, tennis courts, swimming pool, etc., etc.  There was also a museum - we could visit the displays outside, but the inside was not open.

We had a pleasant dinner and then a relatively quiet night at the Furnace Creek Ranch.
