Moving from Sunnyside, Phoenix and Deschute River Recreation Area, June 26 - July 5, 2017

It has been a couple of interesting months.  My watchband broke, so I called several jewelers - they all said they would have to try to special order a replacement - so much for buying a watch when I was in Poland.  So I ordered a new one via Amazon, $12.99, delivered in less than 48 hours.  Interesting operational instructions were in multiple languages.

It was a lot of work, both the multiple trips made by us in cars (both before and after the movers) plus a large truck load by the movers - but finally everything was moved from Sunnyside to the new house.

We did some cleaning on Tuesday and Ecomaids cleaners came on Wednesday.  For our lunch break, we went to Dick's Restaurant on Belmont Street.  The walls are decorated with photos of people named Dick (Dick Nixon, Dick Van Dyke, Dick Clark), plus one of the customers had a most interesting shirt.

Patty had a dorkburger - a mixture of ground duck and pork.

The cleaners from Ecomaids did a superb job.

Then Patty and I flew to Phoenix on Thursday the 29th with six boxes of clothes.  One of the tasks while there was to sort through things and I ended up making three trips with donations to Goodwill.

I am no longer on the Board of Directors at the Carlyle Condo Association, but I still report problems: the need to clean, debrush and repair the cages over our water pipe valves, improper trash disposal and damaged pool furniture.

On Tuesday the 4th we celebrated Independence Day by flying back to Portland.  We were fortunate and got upgraded to first class on both flights.  Today, we said our goodbyes to Ben, Martha and Stowe and their new home.

Then we headed east to Deschute River Recreation area, some ten miles east of The Dalles.  We had visited there in April 2016 - look at my April 21, 2016 post and see how green things were in the spring compared with now - except for a very narrow ribbon along the river, all was brown.

We had a nice picnic lunch and had hoped to hike for an hour or two - but quit after less than a mile out, as it was too hot - we later found out the highs were in the low 100s.  So we headed to our hotel in Biggs Junction and took it easy inside, waiting for it to cool down so we could go to a local restaurant for dinner.
