Off to Fairchild AFB and Spokane WA Friday July 7, 2017

On my early morning walk, there was a beautiful morning sky.

The wind generators across the Columbia River in Washington are generating electricity.

As the sun rose in the east, the clouds got more colorful.

And the temperature on the outdoors thermometer showed 76 degrees at 5:00 a.m. (on my phone, the local weather reading showed a much cooler 72 degrees).  Another hot day in the desert areas of eastern Oregon and Washington.

Before leaving town, I realized I had not taken a photo of the State of Oregon's effort to improve tourism in eastern Oregon - US Route 97 is designated as an Oregon Scenic Byway.  The portion we drove yesterday en route to Cottonwood Canyon certainly is deserving of the recognition.

Here is a view of the Sam Hill Bridge from the Biggs Junction side - I was standing on a bridge just to the east of town.

Both the overpasses (one over the railroad tracks, one over I-84) have these wonderful metal sculptures to evoke the rolling hills of Sherman County and tops of wheat stalks, the leading crop in the county.

We spent about four hours driving to Fairchild AFB, just west of Spokane, where we shopped at the commissary and the base exchange, then at our lunch in Miller Park, a recreation area in the center of the base.  Then it was on to our hotel in Spokane Valley, a suburb to the east of Spokane.  It is still ungodly hot so we decided to take it easy and eat in at the hotel tonight.  Saturday we head to Whitefish, Montana, for our week to explore Glacier National Park.
