Williamson Lake Park and Mount Revelstoke Ski Resort, Monday, July 24, 2017

After buying salads for lunch at the local grocery store, we passed this van in the lot.  The company paints all their camper vans in bright colors and designs, and then puts interesting sayings on the back of the campers.

Our first goal was Williamson Lake Park.  This is a Revelstoke municipal park, a pretty lake with a sandy beach, and a trail which goes half way around the lake, but then stops - you return the way you went in.

There were a lot of stumps from when the area was old growth forest that I presume (but don't know) was logged - now the new growth trees are starting to look pretty big.

As always, we saw many wildflowers in bloom and many berries - and the bear warnings, as bears like berries.

After our hike at Williamson Lake Park, we passed through an area where western painted turtles are being protected.

We then went to the Mount Revelstoke Ski Resort.  The hiking guide says:

1.6 km one-way to Revelation lodge. A scenic hiking trail from the village to Revelation Lodge, winding through meadows and glades of the lower mountain.

Because of poor directions and miscommunication from their staff, we never found this trail.  Instead we found a dirt road going up and kept looking for when we would go into the woods.  Finally after about a mile of climbing, we came to where a trail crossed the road.  After talking to other hikers on the way down, we found out we were only half way there.  We were hot, so we started following the trail down - at the bottom, the sign said:

2.9 km to Revelation Lodge.

The trail down was a pleasant hike through both fields and woods.  Too bad it is not better marked and more accurately marked.  It is listed as a moderate rated hike - no way was it moderate.

They had measuring and monitoring equipment in the stream adjacent to the road.

We could see the Revelstoke Airport - the runway looks like it goes out into the Columbia River.

After hiking, we had a picnic lunch back at Centennial Park where we had eaten the day before.  Then it was back to the hotel to rest and have a cold beer.  For dinner, we decided to try Paramjits's Kitchen.  The owner is from India but went to cooking school in Austria.

We shared some vegetarian somosas, then Patty had buttered chicken on rice and I had chana masala (chick peas cooked with curry) with naan bread.  Then we went out for an evening stroll before calling it a day.
