Yesterday's storm and today's aftermath, Revelstoke, B.C., Sunday and Monday, July 23/24, 2017

Earlier during the day Sunday, the forecast was for a 60% chance of rain starting around 6:00 p.m.  There was no mention of wind.  We started to leave the hotel around 7:00 to walk the five blocks to Emo's Restaurant.  The wind was unreal - there was so much grit and dirt in the air, Patty had to put on her sunglasses.  We later learned that the winds were up to 90 KPH (about 55 mph).  A wild storm, to say the least.

Emo's restaurant has a glassed in patio and we watched the storm from there while eating dinner.  After dinner, as we walked back to the hotel, there was a beautiful double rainbow from horizon to horizon,

On my early morning walk, I discovered whole trees that had been downed.

Some places, it was just small branches.

Other places it was large branches.

Even some metal lightposts were down.

But the storm is now behind us.  Banff is a beautiful city at 4,500 feet elevation in the middle of beautiful Banff National Park, surrounded by glacier fed streams and rivers and amazing mountains in the 10,000 to 12,000 foot range.  Because of that, Banff and the village of Lake Louise have thousands of tourists.  Revelstoke is a beautiful city at 1,500 feet elevation just outside Revelstoke National Park, surrounded by glacier fed streams and rivers and amazing mountains in the 8,000 to 10,000 foot range - while there are tourists, it is no where near as many people.  For Patty and me, this is a much nicer pace and location.

Here are the mountains around Revelstoke as the sun was coming up on Monday morning, the day after the storm.

Here are a couple of the mountains reflected in the Columbia River.

Driving into Revelstoke Saturday, Patty and I had seen this sign, so I needed to add it to my blog - more of the uniqueness of Revelstoke.

Revelstoke also has a cute, but small, firefighters museum.

And they do have some interesting works of art around town.
