Back in Portland for a few days Oct. 2 - 6, 2016

Sunday afternoon, the 2nd, I went out for a walk and came across this car that was for sale.  I had never heard of a Think City electric car, but after doing some research, I found that this was one of the first all electric cars that passed American safety standards and was produced from 2007 - 2011.

We had a couple of quiet days here in Portland on Monday and Tuesday, and we took Shadow to Howliday Inn Wednesday morning.  That afternoon Megan arrived from Ketchikan.  We had some fun times with her Wednesday evening and then Thursday morning, Megan, Patty and I headed for Astoria.  We took a detour to the Tillamook Forestry Center, where Megan climbed a fire tower and then learned more about the Tillamook fires of the 1940s and the planting of 72 million trees.

We then headed towards Astoria.  By chance, we stopped at a parking area on Route 202 - and it was one of four viewing areas at the Jewell Meadows Wildlife Area.  There were probably 100 elk resting and grazing in the field.

And then we drove on to Jim's house where we would stay for the next several days.  Jim is a sea pilot in Ketchikan, guiding ships in the inner passage of southeastern Alaska.  His parents have died and this is their house and 87 acres on the Young River on the southern side of Astoria.
