Some hikes in Portland Sept. 26 to 28, 2016

On Monday the 26th, Patty and I made a return visit to Tryon State Park in southwestern Portland.  On our three hour hike, we came across many huge spiderwebs.

We also came across some large leaf Maple leaves on the ground.  We later learned that some of the leaves are up to 22 inches across.

And Patty also found a banana slug.

Tuesday morning, on my early morning walk, I came across this cute display a neighbor had done.

Tuesday, we drove east to the town of Hood River, then across the Columbia River into Washington and further east.  We stopped at a rest area that talked about the transition from the arid east with 14 inches of rain to the maritime west side of the Columbia Gorge with more than 30 inches of rain per year (and, as we learned later, further west it is 75 inches of rain).

We went a few more miles to the Lyle Trailhead of the Klickitat Trail - this is a rails to trails route that is more than 30 miles long.  We hiked out for about 3.5 miles, before turning back.  The river is wild for about a mile, going through a gorge with fishing on both sides and some bridges over it.

The Yakima Nation has a fish hatchery and research center there, but we could not get close enough to get any good photos.

Then it was back to Portland.  Wednesday, it was a day to get ready to go to Phoenix, as we had accepted the invitation to Lauren and Blaise Biller's wedding on Friday, and the brunch the next day on Saturday.
