Oregon Historic Route 30 Oct. 11, 2016

We wanted to show Megan some unique Oregon scenery, so we spent the day exploring sites on the Historic Columbia Gorge Motorway.  We stopped at the Portland Women's Forum vista in Corbett where you could look east and see the Vista House on Crown Point.  Then it was on to the Vista House.  It was extremely windy and I noticed a permanent sign with the hours for the Vista House, but with a permanent warning that it could be closed due to high winds.  People were having difficulty walking because of the high winds.  Our next stop was Latourell Falls - the first of many amazing waterfalls we visited.

Next stop was Shepperd's Dell.

Then it was on to Bridal Veil Falls where we ate a windblown lunch - although we were sitting in the sun, the wind was blowing so hard it was actually cold.

Next stop was Waukeena Falls,  again, an amazing windy site and view of the falls.

Then, we stopped at the granddaddy of them all, Multnomah Falls.  I did not get any pictures here on my camera, but took several of Megan and Patty with Megan's camera.  Then it was one more stop at one of the old tunnels that is no longer used.

The historic highway ends and we got on I-84 for our next stop, the Bonneville Dam National Historic Site.  Unfortunately, while the grounds were open, the visitor center was closed.  Megan did get to see the fish ladders and we drove across the original dam (the second, newer dam is only accessible from the Washington side).

And then we drove on to the town of Hood River, where we parked and walked around the downtown.  Megan and Patty checked out a few stores before we headed back home to Portland and a dinner of Mexican food from Por Que No - we were able to laugh and enjoy the evening around the dining room table at home.
