Wreck of the Peter Iredale, Fort Stevens State Park, Oct. 24

We arrived at Fort Stevens State Park, late on Sunday afternoon.  The park has space for more than 500 places to stay, a mix of RV and camper sites, tent sites and a small number of yurts and cabins.  Our cabin had two rooms plus a large handicap accessible bathroom.  The bedroom had a bunkbed with a single bed for the upper and a double bed for the lower.  The living/dining room had a sink, microwave oven, fridge, dining room table with four chairs, a tv and dvd player (no antenna or cable, you could just watch DVDs), and a queen size futon with coffee table.  There was a large porch and a few feet off the porch was a gas grill.  There was a also a picnic table and fire pit.  Because of the wind and rain, we just took it easy, had dinner and wine and both went to bed early.

On Monday morning, I drove 20 minutes south to the McDonalds Restaurant in Seaside to use their wifi for doing my classes.  I returned to the cabin before 8:00 and set out for the mile long hike to the wreck of the Peter Iredale on the beach which is on the Pacific - I believe it is referred to as Columbia Beach.  There is not much left of the wreck after all these years and the weather was pretty intense, as can be seen by the video below.

After I returned to our cabin, Patty and I drove to the beach that Monday morning.  The wind was so intense that by Tuesday morning, when I walked there again on my morning walk, we would not have been able to turn the car around in the same place - it had been covered by sand within 24 hours.
